I'm sitting in my comfy chair, my little one is asleep upstairs, and I can vaguely hear the sound of my husband happily reading with my ten-year-old down the hall (he finally got her to agree to start The Hobbit). The rice steamer is bubbling and the warm, popcorny smell of brown rice steaming for tomorrow morning's breakfast floats out from the kitchen. The back door is open to the dripping sounds of the first gentle fall rain, and the moist coolness of the air floating in combines with the warmth of the rice - a soothing aroma soup. A purring, damp kitty sits bathing on the arm of my chair. This is a good time.
I decided to check out the Evening Prayer at the Northumbria Community website - this is not something that I do regularly (though I would like to, I just have not developed the discipline). Today's meditation struck me so powerfully. Four simple lines - yet if I were to meditate on this every day, I wonder how my life might change?
Here am I, Lord,
I've come to do Your will.
Here am I, Lord,
in Your presence I'm still.
Lord - help me to see, to hear, to smell, to listen... to be still.
