She's a Survivor

Matty on Day 2

This little lady moved in with us on Friday. She's a half-feral young cat who lived around a friends' apartment, probably left when someone moved, or abandoned there. She's already had one litter of kittens, which is hard to believe since she's still practically a kitten herself, she's so tiny. My friends caught her last Thursday and took her to the vet, who gave her a thorough check-up, vaccines, and spayed her.

This little cat is quite a challenge. We had been putting off getting another pet since our last ones died, mostly because we felt overwhelmed enough just taking care of our family. But we were getting ready to expand our family to include a pet, and this little one's need was so great.

She is so thrilled to be here in our house - she loves her bed, and today we allowed her to roam and now she loves my bed, too. But she's not completely tame, and though she begs to be rubbed, she easily gets overstimulated - and she reacts by biting. Hard.

So now I am caught. My heart breaks for this little sweetie, who has gone through so much in such a short life, and who is so thrilled to have a safe, warm home and consistent food. My daughters have been begging for a pet, and they long for one that they can hold and cuddle. I'm very worried that my children, or one of their friends, could get seriously bit by this cat.

So I'm praying that she will relax quickly, warning my girls not to touch her for now (my older daughter can, like me, with heavy work gloves on), and wondering about getting an additional kitty that my girls can cuddle.

If anyone has prayers or advice, I would appreciate both! This sweet little thing has survived so much already, I really want this to work out for her.
