Kitty Update

Since I started on this update theme today, thought I would also add a quick note about Matty, the kitty. As I started typing this, Matty was sitting on my lap, sandwiched between the arm of the chair and my powerbook (well, partly on top of the powerbook). While I am typing this, her coat, the corner of my powerbook, and my hand are all being bathed. Well - actually - in typical kitty independent fashion, she has now moved on to roaming the house looking for a little stuffed mouse to play soccer games with...

Matty has been a real blessing in our household, especially for me. I didn't realize how much I missed sitting with a warm kitty purring in my lap. My girls have a slightly more rocky relationship with her, as they are still learning how to be gentle and consistent enough for the kitty to really trust them - but their relationships are getting better and better. I was the only one who ever experienced her initial painful bites, thankfully. She still occasionally scratches my husband and the girls when scared or overstimulated, but it seems to happen less and less.

I feel blessed to experience this relationship. We are mutually appreciative of each other, of what the other has brought into our lives. We have given her a life of acceptance, love, food and comfort that she was longing for. Sometimes I imagine that I can see her conscious appreciation of her life, of what we have given her. I love watching her, her catness, her living in the present, her acceptance, her love. No one has ever groomed my hands and wrists with such love and attention. It's better than a manicure, and I don't have to worry about the polish chipping off...
